I got a call from my Aunt the other night, one of her sons is gonna be Daddy for the first time. I'm not sure when the due date is but I'm excited. He is the cousin that went to the college near me and would spend weekends at my house.
I started classes again last week. I am taking 3 courses because this is the slowest time on the farm. So far so good and I'm pretty happy to be going back.

A humanities class, a basic computer course and baby algebra. I'm not great w/ math so I decided to drop way down below what my entrance exam showed. Hopefully I will be able to brush up on some skills and understand some of the ones I haven't in the past.
Loving the humanities class so far.

You're farming? Good luck with the school stuff. I hope you enjoy it all. Or as much as you can enjoy algebra.

That all sounds great!
And, yeah, with math, it's better to back up a few steps before trying to move forward if you haven't done it in a while so you don't get completely lost. I just wish when I was in college that someone told me Russian was a prerequisite for learning algebra...because all of our professors were Russian, with thick accents!

G, yes I have the family farm that grandpa had. When he passed last year I started running it. I enjoy it but it sure is a challenge at times. Yesterday I was putting out salt and mineral and had to do a mad dash to the truck and back to the gate to get it shut before the cows got out on me...lol Beth, I have enjoying all the classes, even the algebra. She explains things where I can understand them and given a few lil catch phrases that can help me. Calluna, I need all the help in algebra that I can get..lol Oh, I don't think I could get the Russian accents...I have enough trouble w/ just the x, y and z...!

Boy was I spaced out last night (my Tuesdays and Thursdays are LONG days, with a full 7 hours of classroom time teaching two different groups of students in three courses). In college, I took calculus, not algebra. I had algebra on the mind from your post. But, yeah, same difference, all the professors were Russian with Russian accents. It's interesting that nowadays, I don't have any trouble understanding lectures given by people with accents of any kind, but I sure did struggle back then...probably because it takes a little time just to get your ears adjusted to listening to accents (I'd have probably even had a hard time with just a southern accent back then). I'm glad you have a good instructor who explains it all clearly for you. Algebra really isn't a difficult subject, but the quality of the teacher makes a HUGE difference. They have to be able to remember it IS difficult the first time you learn it and explain things clearly. Too often you get stuck with someone who picked it up easily, which is why they are teaching math, and can't understand where people get stuck. If you have someone teaching it who can back up and explain it clearly, then you're very fortunate. And I'm laughing at the thought of you trying to outrun cattle to a gate.
