My parents are coming to visit for longer than I think I can manage. I have no clue what my online time is going to look like for the next short while, so be nice to Beth, please, and pray I resurface unscathed.

Good luck! I know better than to expect you to return unscathed, so I'll just hope for minimally scathed.

Good heavens. What made me believe this was doable? Either hope springs eternal or I'm more stupid than I thought. It could be either, really.

Hang in there...oh, wait, maybe I shouldn't mention hanging right now. Um...hold on, grab onto your sanity tightly and don't let it go! That sounds better. Next time, remember to give them the LUMPY bed! ;D

How are you doing, G? One more day, right? Are there still any shreds of your sanity left for us to try to stitch back together? I'm waiting for the big, long, venting, ranting post about how the week went.

Glad you survived! Did the wine help you forget the experience?

Wine makes everything just a little less sharp. ;D You were absolutely correct, Calluna, about the bed. It turns out that any other bed they sleep/have slept on, including their own bed, makes them wake with back pains. Not so with my bed. Not one morning did either of them wake with a sore back. Next time, they get the futon.

I work with wonderful people. Today at work I was presented with a cake with the word "Survivor" written on top. Very funny. And, as one of them quipped, "Well, any excuse to have cake, really."

That's great! My coworkers never got me cake for surviving my parents. I think I'll have to mention this to them, just in case they need an excuse for cake some other time. And I think your current avatar is hilarious given the topic of this thread. ;D

Patchoulii, this was unprecedented. The only other time they've come to visit me was in about 1997, I think, for three days, and my ex absolutely refused to let them stay with us. I found them a nice hotel. (He wasn't entirely wrong about everything -- plus we really did not have a place to put them unless we'd slept on the couch.) This was 10 days and they stayed with me. It hasn't ever happened before and truly likely not to happen again, although I do have to go visit them next year as my mother turns 70 then. I visited when my father turned 70 and it's in the rule book that I have to be fair. However, I get to pick how many days I go for and this time -- as opposed to last -- I see a hotel room involved with my stay. That'll be my choice. Yes Calluna, cake! How funny are they? And yes, Pig in his Internet Happy Box. Pig is wonderful.
