I can scarcely believe it's been 15 years since I first sat in a theatre and was entirely entranced by Pixar animation and the world of Andy's bedroom. And ten years since the second installment. I've seen each of the movies on opening weekend with a specific friend and we followed tradition this weekend and saw it on opening night on Friday. It is, of course, delightful.
The animation is improved yet again (as if I even thought that was possible) and the story had me from the word go. It was far more of an action movie than its predecessors, but still filled with humour and wonderful life ideas. It asks and explores deep questions about friendship and loyalty and when it's not selfish to be less selfless. It's fun and gorgeous and entertaining.
Next weekend, I'm going to see it again, but in 3D this time. The friend I went with this past weekend is prone to fainting for reasons unknown, so one never knows what a trigger may be. She's not been to a 3D film before, and I didn't want the responsibility of her keeling over in the theatre on my head. We know she can manage 2D. We did that.
But absolutely worth the watch.

All the reviews seem to agree with you - and they all are saying that this is the only animated series of films that have made each story and each visual experience better than the last. That takes real dedication to quality

Interesting that the other friend I have who saw Toy Story 3 this weekend wasn't really impressed. He took his kids, and while he knew the kids would enjoy it, he was disappointed even though he's generally a fan of Pixar films. He thought it wasn't as visually interesting as the earlier films.
I think I'll just wait for it on DVD, like I do most movies. There aren't any theaters around here that show the 3D version, and the more modern 3D glasses hurt my eyes and give me a headache (never had that problem with the old ones that were blue and red), so being limited on the 3D options, I guess it's just as well for me to wait for it to come out on DVD. I recently splurged on a big HD TV for my living room, so it will be nice for watching DVDs (at least it will be by Friday when I finally get my living room furniture...ha ha...only took a year to decide on something and I just hope I still like it by the time it's delivered).
