Bit the worse for wear today.
You know how it is with the NY resolutions. Mine was to get more exercise, so I started the year off with riding to work.
Coming home on the bike path I came up behind a couple and rang my bell. No movement or even a look my way. I rang it four more times and yelled but they still didn't move out of the way.
I had to slam on both anchors to avoid hitting one of them. That flipped the bike and I landed on my head on the path, and then went for a little concrete surfing.
End result is facial, arm and leg abrasions and a fractured radius. They took me to ER because of the head impact, and the doctor there reckoned I'd got off lightly. I tend to agree.
Still, arm in a sling for a few days, and no work, and then rehabilitation of my right elbow to get flex back. No cycling for a month at least. So much for resolutions.

Ouch is right, wheelie! Did the chumps that caused the mishap even stop to see if you survived? Hope Karma visits them right back. Feel better soon and take it easy. (so if you aren't wheelspinner for at least a month who shall you be for the duration?)

Oh, no...I am so sorry. Take care of yourself, and take the rules of the road with you and remember that very few people do what they should do and prepare accordingly. Sad that the oafs peddle merrily along, leaving a wake behind them

(so if you aren't wheelspinner for at least a month who shall you be for the duration?) Actually they were very solicitous. They and a couple of other ladies called an ambulance, and looked after me until it arrived. The other ladies then left, but these two stuck around and kept an eye on my bike until Beth arrived. They were British and said it was their first day here in Australia. The impression I got was that they were saying they didn't know what the bell-ringing signified. I find that very hard to believe, and the instinctive reaction of British people should have been the same as ours - move over to the left to avoid a crash. If they were American I could understand them going to the wrong side. Regardless of where they are from there are no excuses for just standing rooted to the spot and making no space at all. What they did was bloody stupid, but the were very apologetic about it.

That's one reason why they were so bloody stupid; they were taking up both sides of a two way shared path.

All cleaned up; I don't look nearly as much of a fright. I've been back at work a week and got through it OK. I was feeling it by Friday and put my arm back in the sling last night to give it a rest.
Back to the clinic Monday to get some more X-rays to confirm progress.
As a side note, none of this has cost me a cent - the government has paid for it all. I can even claim for some of my lost income, but I probably won't bother.

Oh sure, now that you're feeling better you rub it in about the healthcare costs! (Just teasing. I am glad you are much better and feeling good.) If this had been me I would still be receiving assorted bills from the docs, tests, hospital, etc. Since I have not paid out all of my $3000 deductible for this year I would be writing checks as the bills came in. I am salaried so wouldn't have to worry about lost income, thank goodness. Would the employer receive it from the government in that case?

A salaried employee would just take sick leave, which I don't get.

Got it. Here you would be eligible for nothing. Normal operating procedures sadly.
