From the site www.smithmag.net/sixwords/ ... ...where you can submit your six-word stories (explanation below). If they're good, they might even publish them in an upcoming book! This thread is to share yours here! ------------ Legend has it that Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Starting in 2006, SMITH Magazine re-ignited the recountre by asking our readers for their own six-word memoirs. They sent in short life stories in droves, from the bittersweet (“Cursed with cancer, blessed with friends”) and poignant (“I still make coffee for two”) to the inspirational (“Business school? Bah! Pop music? Hurrah”) and hilarious (“I like big butts, can’t lie”).

Heart and mind won't talk between.
I wonder if a contraction counts as one word or two.

It really sucks being the survivor.

Contractions...? I won't fault them. :-)
Patchouli -- I love ones like that. It's exactly the reason for six-word stories. It's enigmatic. Leaves you wondering what happened... rhetorically speaking, are you the survivor, or are you remarking on a friend, or generally? What was survived? Does it mean you're a widow/widower? Or did survival leave you diminished somehow, emotionally or physically?
Again, all those questions are rhetorical -- I really don't want to know. The point of six-word stories is to wonder, to fill into them your own experiences and questions.
It's an art form of its own, I think.

Wow, you guys would be enthralled reading the classified ads. There was one in yesterday's paper that doesn't quite fit the rules of 6 words, but fits the theme of the stories you're writing: "Free kittens: owner can't care for them." One word over though.
Here's mine, an attempt at a humorous one:
Farmer just married. Sheep for sale.
