While I was taking all my birdie photos (see elsewhere in General) I was also taking in the magnificence of the Grampians National Park (known to the traditional owners as Gariwerd). The Grampians are a spectacular mountain range made mostly of sandstone. The whole area was once covered by an inland sea. In the 19th Century, the sandstone was quarried to build some of Melbourne's most beautiful buildings, including our State Parliament. The park boasts many rugged stone outcrops such as these: The Elephant's Hide: and The Balconies Usually the Park has many waterfalls, but these are not flowing so well due to the drought. Still, McKenzie Falls is still putting on a good show. It was a sunny day, and the falls were lit up by a rainbow. . I had to walk down about 400 steps to get to the base of the falls for these shots. It felt like about 800 going back up! From one of the lookouts, we got a good view of Lake Bellfield, sadly also depleted due to drought. The park is home to almost 300 instances of rock art. Only 4 are open to the public, the rest being either too sacred or too fragile to put on show. This tableau is of the creator spirit Bunjil and his two helpers, and has been dated as more than 35,000 years old. We spent Easter at my mother-in-law's. I took some evening photos there. Here is her driveway, just before sunset. And here is the sunset a little while later.

Georgina, should this and the bird thread have been posted in the Personal board instead? Are you able to move them?

And, gorgeous photos. You've got a terrific eye. I really like the rock art. It's great that it's available in the open for everyone to enjoy.

I'm a big fan of the rainbow shot too. Thanks. That make it worth the climb.

I particularly like the photos of the outcrops. Those sorts of landscape features always catch my interest, and you've done a very nice job of framing them to show them off well. Now I'm off to find birdie pictures.
