... although I'm not sure that being the first to leave is a very good claim to fame. I'll be out till Feb. 3 or 4, because I'm going:
a) to fly to Chicago, which is where everyone wants to spend the end of January and the beginning of February, for a professional conference involving alcohol and lampshades.
b) to stop off in Denver to try to find a new car because the dreaded "CHECK ENGINE" light has been on in mine for about a month and, more to the point, because it's time. That car has 289,000 miles on it, many of them driven by my wife, who was not ... um ... well, let's just say she considered a vehicle a tool, not a friend. Once I have something with which to replace it, I can put a piece of electrical tape over the warning light and give it to my second son, who is learning to drive. (Just kidding; I'll take it in to get fixed, but that's not an easy thing to do around here.)
c) to see my daughter in Colorado Springs. Maybe I can get her to give me *her* car.
Till next week ...

I would say "have fun," but honestly, none of that actually sounds fun. A conference in Chicago in winter? Is it about treating hypothermia? As for the check engine light, of course the electrical tape is the best solution. Afterall, if you HAVE checked the engine, scratched your head a bit, decided you don't know what needs fixing or that you don't have the parts to do so, it should have a reset button that allows you to say that "Yep, I checked it." The worst is when it turns out to be a faulty check engine light.
