Thank you for sharing this. I love woodpeckers, and have a front row seat to view them from my kitchen....but these shots of their interactions are wonderful !!

Those are great, especially the top one. They are a beautiful bird - I haven't seen them before. I've only seen evidence of woodpecker activity on a walk in CA, not the actual birds.
Keep them coming. I love good wildlife shots.

That's really neat, peltigera! I do get to see woodpeckers in my yard, because I have enough bug-infested trees (though had the two worst ones cut down already...the others aren't tall enough or close enough to houses to worry about) and there's enough of a slope that my upper deck gives a good view of the tree tops further down the mountain, but I haven't seen any feeding babies yet.
I'm thoroughly enjoying the hummingbirds though. There's a male ruby-throated hummingbird right now perched in a tree branch close to my deck, and I'm not sure why he isn't already at the feeder (I have at least three hummingbirds that sort of share the feeder...two males and a female fight over it). There might be more, but I've only seen two males at a time fighting and the female is obviously a third.
My seed feeder is popular with the birds too, mostly because it's mounted to the rails on my upper deck, so well out of reach of the neighbor's cats, and my own cat is too clueless to bother it (she gets excited about the birds, but since the feeder is on the "other" side of the "bars" (aka deck railings) with a long way down after that, she seems content ot just watch them...and she's only allowed to sit on the deck if I'm home and watching anyway...I think she knows she's going to lose her bird-watching priviledges if she tries to eat any birds).

Hummingbirds are one thing I really miss from my days in CA. We don't get them here at all. I have very fond memories of the aviary at the San Diego Zoo and the amazing variety of hummers they had there. This is a photo I took of one in a garden near San Diego.

We planted trumpet vines in the front of the house when we moved here 16 years ago....they are monsters now, and we have hummingbirds on them all the time. I am fascintated by them - so lovely.

I've not seen a hummingbird in person. I'd truly love to, though.

Be careful issuing an invite. I might very well land on your doorstep one day.
