I finished up my latest consult on Friday and now have some free time. We are climbing into a plane tomorrow at some beastly hour of the morning to fly up to Queensland for a week. We'll be staying in a holiday cottage in the Glasshouse Mountains, quite close to Steve Irwin's zoo. (No we will NOT be going to see that travesty of a place). While there I'm going to catch up with my brother and brother-in-law, both of whom we haven't seen for a year or more. We are also going to take in an exhibition from the Met of American Impressionists. There is also a huge antiques market that I'm planning to trawl for old cufflinks to add to my collection. If I can get my headache to behave I should have a lot of fun. Hopefully, by the time I get back, there will be a nice new job waiting in my inbox.

Back now.
Queensland was no warmer than here. Headache is now under control, but no nice new job as yet.

It's winter there, though, right? What are your average temps there in winter, WS? (I know I can Google that, but it's often better to hear from someone who is actually there.)

Averages are becoming a tad misleading nowadays, as they are taken over a period of 150 years. After a decade of drought, most of us have concluded that Melbourne's climate has changed for good now.
Around now, we would expect temperatures ranging from freezing up to tops in the mid-teens (I speak Celsius, sorry). That's pretty much what we've been getting, although most days the lows were around 5C and tops in the high teens. There was even the odd day in June where we hit 20.
Brisbane let the side down. They are supposed to turn on tops in the low 20s, and we did not break 20 any day that we were there. It also rained for a couple of days, and there were strong cold winds on others. Not exactly the Sunshine State.

Funny that's your winter. (I speak Celsius too. We colonialists do that. It's mid summer here and hasn't risen past 24 yet. I suspect August will hit the high 30s and push 40, but it's been unseasonably cool here this year. Lots of sunshine, though, so I won't complain. So if mid-teens to twenty is winter, summer's got to be pretty impressive for heat.

Well Melbourne did hit 47 on Black Saturday (Feb 7th). I never want to go through that again.
