His current name is Pepper, and I have never changes a pup's name before - but he is barely 2 and most of our resxues are older, so we will probably change the name to something the "P" sounds so it is familiar, but for some reaason I do not care for his current name.

I will be getting him in less than 90 minutes - then he goes to the office with me for a few hours (not like they are going to fire me for it now LOL) before a quick trip to the vet for shots....and then he comes home to meet all his new sisters !

He is the dearest little guy....and so eager for a family. He is settling in well with the girls. Did not care much for the vet and her shots....for the last one, he had climbed over my shoulder and draped around my neck (we had another male who loved do that when we were watching TV or walking about outside - like a little puppy collar). So I just reached up and help him, bent over a bit and told her to do it quickly before he decided to climb onto my head !
He was so well behaved for the few hours he was in my office, then the wife of one of my employees took him to a local park for a long walk. That tired him out enough he napped before the trip to the vet. Then home to meet everyone. And I am thrilled that he and Richard became fast friends - he snuggled up in his lap and had his first deep sleep of the day.
So it is going very well. I am concerned about an odd gait when he runs with his left rear leg. Might be sore for some small reason, or some injury - that is the sad part about rescues, you keep learning more about the things that happened to them as time passes. We will keep an eye on that and if it is not cleared up by the time I schedule his neutering (probably in a couple of weeks) I will have the vet investigate. Here's hoping it is nothing.
He does have leathered ears - that is when the animal is left out in the extreme cold repeatedly and the inside of their ears looks either leathery or shiny gray and it is slightly rough to the touch. There does not seem to be any other damage from the cold that we can tell, so I have already ordered the lotion that will try help rehydrate the ears and keep them from cracking as the skin dries out as he ages. Starting early help avoid that and the infections that come with that.
We are pleased - and i just adore him. My little man.....

Aw, he sounds like such a treat. And he loves everyone! It's wonderful he instinctively trusts you to hold onto you when he needed someone at the vet's. So far, so good. I'm extremely happy for all of you.

I am wearing a dachsie collar a lot these days ;D
I will admit it was a lot cuter when Richard was the wearer, because even a 10 pound pup gets a little heavy after a while.....but he is so sweet when he does it. He seems to know when I am nearing my limit, and he reaches around and gives the tip of my nose a little kiss (which so far earns him more time - he may be new, but he is certainly very smart !!!)

How wonderful for the new pup and you that you've given him a new home. He looks very thin in the photo. I guess he was up for adoption because he's been neglected?

Yes, that is part of what we are looking at helping him with slowly. He should be carrying another 2 pounds at his size. The vet has us watching a couple of other things (rear left leg is sometimes lifted when he runs - might be a pulled muscle, nothing obvious, and we will give it a couple of weeks to see if it goes away if not0. I will make his neutering appointment next week for the following week. I want to be home with him for a couple of days after the procedure.
Pippin is the name that seemed to work best, and he has adapted to it pretty quickly. He is just the sweetest little guy.....

Hopefully Pippin's leg problem is something temporary. It sounds like this little guy has been through enough already. And Pippin sounds like a fitting name for a pup who has been through such hardships so early in life.

He is a piebald dapple Dachshund - pretty unusual to have those two patterns together. I really love that he is so very unique. Just a beautiiful dog....and much happier than he looks in that picture.

I love the name) Pippin... it fits. and he's beautiful! I know what you mean about finding out how animals are mistreated. It can make you ill. My husband said yesterday that it disappoints him and boggles his mind how often people will be mean, when just about any other action would work better. The meanness is done, not even for a gain.... but for the evil feeling of it.
it's a sad, foreboding thought.
