Weather the F???
Today Melbourne hit 30C, and had a northerly wind of 55 kmh. This is the highest temperature on record for the first half of December. Across the State, temperatures were higher than the average for January, the height of summer.

I think mother nature got turned around upside-down and gave you southern hemispherers the weather us northern hemispherers are supposed to have this time of year. It's already fall here, and I don't remember actually getting a summer.

We've just had summer during the past two and a half weeks. I'm not kidding. Summer was lousy beyond lousy here, and now, for most of September, it's been in the high 20s C low 30s. Unheard of. But I'm not complaining. I'm a huge fan of summer.

It's warm. It's after 10 at night, and it's still warm. It's 26 C (around 79 F for those of you who are temperature impaired;) And I'm enjoying every sticky moment of it. We topped out at around 32 C today (about 90 F) which was -- I believe -- one of the warmest days this summer. It's fantastic. We've not had much of this.
And what we have had, I've not been able to enjoy. For various reasons, the most recent was my parents visiting, during the times it's been warm here this summer, I've had to have my air conditioning on in my place. (I wonder what they would have done had I not moved here and had central air?)
I don't like air conditioning. Yes, it makes it tolerable to work indoors during the summer, because otherwise we'd not get a thing done. But the problem with air conditioning is that it's cold. It's never moderate. It's never 'comfortable'. It's cold. And there's that glorious summer day outdoors and you're indoors with a cardigan on feeling cold.
And this summer, when I've had me time coupled with nice weather, I've needed the air on in my home. So I've been cold at home too. And that gets on my nerves.
So, here I sit, warm, a cool breeze blowing periodically through my window, and I'm happy of it. I may sit up way, way late just to enjoy the warm.

I feel the same way about air conditioning. We did not add it when we moved here, and probably never will. I am always cold when the AC is running. And I have to use blankets when I sleep in hotels or homes with AC at night because I cannot sleep when I am cold.
We had a short hot spell here (only one 90 deg F this summer). I am not complaining - since I have been home and project-oriented for a month, it has made the work easier.
This week is my idea of perfect weather - mid 60s-70s in the daytime, 50s at night.

Winter arrived today. 15 - 20 cm of snow (up to eight inches) expected in total. It's been snowing since before I woke this morning and hasn't stopped yet. Winds gusting to 50km per hour. It's lovely.
I've sent everyone home.

Mmm hm. Well. It's been snowing mostly non-stop for two days, now, with the temperature plummeting 12+ degrees since yesterday. No one I know wants to go anywhere. One friend already got stranded out of province yesterday, unable to fly back in and another friend is likely facing the same fate today. Highways are closing, wind is whipping the snow about so you can't tell whether it's still snowing or just changing places.
Ah yes, it's winter. I want to find someone who will deliver jelly beans to me.

The stuff those elderly Canadians shake off of themselves as they disembark in your State for a few months every year.
It was overcast and gloomy all day Friday and a total of 18 cm of snow fell. (7 inches to those of you who don't think in cm) Then, still overcast and gloomy, a further 5 cm fell on Saturday. (2 more inches) For a total of 23 cm or 9 inches of snow all in one go over the course of two days. That's a lot of snow. At least the roads are semi-cleared now. I was able to venture out into the sunlight for a while and stock up on more Vitamin D tablets.

As we wander into further yuckiness, it's -32 C this morning -- - 24 F -- with a wind chill/feels-like warning of -42. When it gets to -40, C and F meet up. Plus the snow is blowing. And I'm going to help a young friend move out of a rural property. If I freeze in a snowbank somewhere, I'll send someone with news. Meantime, this is precisely the kind of weather Canadians, or at least western Canadians, almost take pride in. We can handle this! So we like to tell each other.

Can't imagine -32 C - the coldest I have ever experienced is -25 C which was quite unpleasant (frozen mucus around all my nose hairs which is fairly painful). But better than rain. I cannot abide rain.

We are less wintered than Georgina is - but wind chills are below zero and we have about 14" of fresh snow on the ground. Very pretty. Lots of shoveling just to let the dogs out for a walk

I do wish Melbourne would make up its bleeding mind.

The stuff those elderly Canadians shake off of themselves as they disembark in your State for a few months every year. We're supposed to get a heap load of snow tonight through all day tomorrow. I would be loving it if I wasn't trying to plan a trip to see my bf. Classes are over, vacation has begun, and I'm going to be trapped home instead of snowed in with a warm, fuzzy, snuggly man. Though, I'm loving the Christmas spirit on the board here.

Today we had our hottest day since Black Saturday, last February. It hit 44C in Melbourne, and even a bit higher in the Western suburbs.
We've even had to invent a new fire warning classification: Catastrophic. The Wimmera region (in Victoria's West) was rated Catastrophic last night, and people were ordered to leave the area. Fortunately no fires so far.

18º this morning, so it's warming up. It's supposed to be close to 60º in a couple of days.
It's hot and humid here in the summer (East Texas) and I don't have air conditioning. Just fans. It was particularly miserable, though, after Hurricane Rita took out my electricity for a week.
