Today was the anniversary of Johnny Cash's death. What better way to spend it than at a tribute concert performed by a great Australian musical talent - swamp rocker Tex Perkins. Perkins' deep baritone is perfect for covering Cash songs. All the favourites were there, as well as some unusual choices. There was a storyline between songs as Tex and Rachael Tidd (as June Carter) recounted Cash's life story and illustrated it with his music. My favourite moment was after they talked about June's death. The lights went way down and Tex sang Hurt, a song that perfectly suits both his voice and his hard-living background. After that the band gave us a rollocking set of encores topping it with a rousing rendition of Ring of Fire. Fantastic show, and a worthy tribute to a musical great. www.themaninblack.com.au/team.php
