but my body always says "sit down!" It's interesting that you bring up sitting. I wanted to talk a bit about that. I've often thought that many "normal" and seemingly "sedentary" things we do can mess up our joints as much as any exercise program. Take sitting, for instance. I've often found that my knees hurt if I sit for too long a period of time. Although various physical activities are said to place the body at risk for injury, could it be that many "sedentary" activities are just as much of a culprit? I think so. Perhaps Don Rumsfeld was on to something when he revealed that he's always used a "standing" desk. Well, I was joking when I wrote that. I actually work standing up and have done so for 40 years now. My mother laughs at me and my dad as when we visit, Mum and Bestbeloved sit down to talk and Dad and me stand. My employer gave me a week-long desk job a couple of years ago which was very nice ion the first day, the second day I had to find excuses to go for walks and on the Friday my legs hurt so much I could barely work.

Oh, I didn't mean you, Peltigera. I know that you work in a factory and probably don't do much sitting.

Guys, here is a book recommendation, for yourselves or for a gift you give to someone else. www.amazon.com/Mens-Health-Big-Book-Exercises/dp/1605295507I bought this book a few weeks ago. It's the greatest book I've ever found in terms of showing how various weightlifting and bodyweight exercises are done. Every exercise imaginable is illustrated with sharp pictures showing exactly how to perform a movement. I can't recommend this book enough. It's top-notch.

For awhile, ESPN had "Kiana Tom" doing weightlifting demos for half an hour in the morning on weekdays. I guess her ratings weren't great, she doesn't seem to be on anymore.
In any event -- I incorporated a number of her demos in my workout -- the ones I could do at home, anyway. And, of course, for a guy, she was fun to watch. :-)

Yes. Google her, there are pictures.
Actually I was seriously considering getting DVD's of her "Flex Appeal" show, because it really was inspirational for me and she had good fitness tips, but they don't seem to exist. She has a website but it's a bit rinky-dink; I suspect she's not even directly involved in it.

I didn't know she was still popular. I can remember seeing her back in the 1990s. She certainly was nice on the eyes. : )

Dunno if "popular" covers it really. I found out about her from her "Kiana's Flex Appeal" show being aired on ESPN last summer, and for some indeterminate time before that. When I went to see if I could buy the DVD's for the show, I found out that her show ran from 1993-2001 or something like that. So, she was popular a LONG time ago and apparently ESPN was trying to make some money on reruns. I guess her ratings weren't high enough to stay on for years again. And the DVD's used to be available, even as late as april this year from some vendors, but not anymore... so I guess she failed even in the after-market. Ah, well. I don't always get what I want. :-)
