Gulp. After years of renting, we finally saved up enough to put a deposit on a house this week. Some photos of the house are below. It's a brick veneer, less than 10 years old. Reasonably well-located, although I'd prefer it was a bit closer to rail transport. Still the bus is only 5 minutes away. In the back yard, by the pergola you can see in the photo is a water feature with a little waterfall and a fish pond. There are also water tanks, which is why the garden is so green after years of drought. So just as the economy goes into free fall, we have decided to embrace the biggest level of debt in our lives. Foolhardiness, or smart counter-cyclical investment decision? Time will tell.

It is a wonderful home....nothing better than that I am sure it was the right time for you and yours to do this. I knew that when I bought the home we have now. I knew it was so right I threw away the china and crystal moving boxes Best wishes for a lovely life in your lovely home.

What a charming house!! Gorgeous gardens, and I absolutely love the open floor plan. I can only hope to find a place with a floor plan similar to that. I LOVE the idea of a family room contiguous with the kitchen, though I could use that in place of a formal living room (in my old house, I had a family room by the kitchen too, and that's where I spent most of my time, so I don't think I want an additional living room...except that for some reason that old house was being sold at a much lower price than smaller houses in the same neighborhood that needed more updating, so I wasn't complaining about extra rooms).
Actually, with such gorgeous gardens, as long as the weather was warm enough, I don't think I'd be spending much time indoors at all! That just looks like such a tranquil, relaxing place to be. So does the inside of the house. I'm not the fan of the flowery wallpaper borders, but otherwise, everything just looks so cozy and inviting. I think that's really important in a home, to make it feel warm and inviting.

It's lovely. The kitchen/family room area is really appealing. And the yards are gorgeous.
Congratulations to you and your family.

I'm not the fan of the flowery wallpaper borders We're not fans of that either. The thing is if you strip them you'll get this weird stripe effect on the paint. So it will have to wait until we're ready to repaint the living room, and then it will go.

Bit late to the party, but... holy cow! What a beautiful home! I half-expected to be greeted by Ken & Barbie at the door. :-).
Congrats!

I got retrenched in February and had to back out of the purchase. We will be looking again in a few months; I hope to find something as good.

So sorry to hear that it didn't work out. That really was a gorgeous house. Hopefully you'll have better luck the next time around.
