I'm only semi-convinced I'm going to survive this. Good heavens. I haven't been able to talk for two days, now. Yesterday because talking brought on coughing fits and today because my voice is simply gone. I've never had that happen before.
Fever or no, I felt well enough to leave the house today for the first time in three days. I've stocked in enough Kleenex to hold me until at least next Thursday.
Okay, I'm officially saying yuck to this one.

That is always my plan for sick days.... and rainy days, and snowy days, and wistful days, and just for the fun of it

Thank heavens for antibiotics. A cold carrying on for over a week is really no big deal. A wickedly sore throat carrying on for over three weeks, however, means bacteria lurking somewhere. I can swallow again. Yay.

Wow, so sorry it has been such a long process for you. Glad you can swallow, but take it easy for a while

Well, a bit of it was goofy on my part, because generally when I get a cold I get a sore throat for about a day or a day and half and then the cold starts. i get knocked on my behind for about two days, and then I'm good again. So I kept waiting and waiting for the sore throat to turn into a cold, but it actually went on so long that it was something else entirely. Probably strep. That I got a cold was coincidental, I guess. I had an upcoming doctor's appointment anyway, and he laughed at my nose. I likely ought to have gone to the doctor's a week and half into the rotten throat thing. I learned a lesson. Funny how that keeps happening no matter how old you get.

For a sore throat, try sipping ice water very slowly. It'll hurt at first, but as it takes the fever out of the tissues, it will ease the soreness to an amazing degree.

That's a good pointer. I was sucking on sugarless popsicles like mad.

I hope you are all better now, Georgina. Keep an eye on it though 'cause sometimes a bad bacterial infection can flare back up. Personal home remedies - the ubiquitous chicken soup and gargle salt water for the throat. The ice water qh mentioned does work wonders.

Thanks Patchoulli, yes, I'm much better now. I even finished my prescription of antibiotics all the way down to the very last pill. And yep, I was guzzling chicken soup. Ice water didn't occur to me at the time but popsicles did. I'm assuming the net effect is the same because they did relieve my throat. I'll keep the ice water in mind, though, should there be a next time. I'm hoping there's no next time, because that one kinda sucked. Thank you for asking. It's sweet of you to care.

Glad you're feeling all better. I'd have probably done the same thing, since my colds also usually start out with a sore throat, so I just don't think much about a sore throat.
