As some people have noticed, we have some fun, goofy options for making this site specific to us. One of the options is the Rank Name. And that is being assigned (awarded? ;D) a title under your username that's based on the number of posts you've submitted on this board. The board came with some default ranks, and I added to them as people exceeded the number of posts the defaults set.
We can modify the rank names to be whatever we like, and we can change them as whims suit. I've seen them in themes on other boards such as a literature discussion board having rank names of famous women writers from a certain period. (It made sense for that board.)
I'd like (if anyone wants to play along) suggestions for themes for rankings should anyone have ideas.
Here are the parameters we have to work in.
# of posts to achieve a new rank name.
0 - whatever number of posts you think should qualify someone for a new rank (it's currently 0 - 50)
Rank Name
Of course, the name associated with the number of posts (We aren't restricted to using the word "member" in the names. The board's defaults came that way.)
# of stars
Each rank has a number of stars associated with the name
Colour of stars
And further, we can select the star colours. We have gold, blue, red, and green to choose from.
So, throw out ideas!

Okay, so, for instance: Simpsons Characters 0 - 50 posts
Ralph Wiggums
One red star(In case you don't know who he is) 51 - 200 posts
The Comic Book Guy
Two red stars 201 - 500 posts
Mayor Quimby
Three red stars501 - 1000 posts
Miss Krabappel
One Blue starAnd etc. ;D

This task is more difficult than it may appear to be at first because we are so eclectic. As well, I wonder if we necessarily even need to have "rankings" per se.
There were the following that I thought might be interesting: The Periodic Table of the Elements American presidents, plus possibly other significant positive persons, such as Sacagawea States/provinces of countries that all of us hail from
Perhaps most interestingly, we could do combinations... such as elements and presidents, for example, "Uranium Jefferson."
I'd almost recommend elements and states, however. For example, "Lithium Alberta," "Hydrogen Alabama." I noticed though it gets dodgier with Australian states... "Potassium New South Wales" doesn't quite roll off the tongue. :-)

One board I am on has a lot of fun with this. Instead of having a ranking system, the mods dole out made-up titles when someone does something truly noteworthy (positive or negative). For a while, the chief mod was "Redactor-General". Other guys got titles like "Proud Mary", "Professor Fabulous" and so on.

Those are terrific, Beth! They'll be helpful.
That's a nifty idea too, WS.
I don't think that the "rank names" are important or necessary, but they come with the place and that's why we're having some fun with them. I've been on other boards where there was all sorts of prestige involved with post counts and whatnot. Obviously, here, that's irrelevant. So messing with amuses me. ;D

I'm liking "Verbose Member", although it's not a title I'd aspire to.

I THINK I'm only 49 -- oops, now 48 -- posts away from being a "Verbose Member." I keep trying to catch up to Oskar, but I can't match his stamina. :-)
