It is neutering day for my little man. I will be on pins and needles all day until I can bring him home

Hang in there, Beth! I know it's tough to wait for these things, even when you know it's totally a routine procedure and almost always turns out just fine. It's that "almost" that drives us mad with waiting.

Pip is home and sleeping off the meds. He did very well, and all the techs fell in love with his sweet ways.
I have been checking him every 15 minutes (I readily admit to being obsessively watchful when they have anesthesia)

I completely understand! It's much better to be obsessive about checking them after anesthesia than to just assume everything will be okay. It's during that recovery time that they can get into the most trouble, only being half awake, or not really feeling any soreness, they can wander into trouble easily. Best to keep a close eye.

Glad to hear he's home and everyone's relaxing. And yes, absolutely, check and re-check and check again. Even when they're sleeping I stare at them post-anything.
I'll be you're relieved that's over with.

I am. Now comes the hard part of keeping him from jumping for 5 days. This pup has springs in his pads. Never had a dachsie that could jump that high before. We have a raised sled-style bed. He makes it on there without even a running start. He already got one jump past me thing morning.....arghhhhhhh

Yeah but he feels good! (I know you're supposed to keep him quiet. Didn't anyone tell him you're boss and he has to follow the rules of what's best for him?)

And how is the Pippin-guy coming along post-surgery?

Yeah, vets always tell people they need to stop the dog or cat from jumping post-surgery, but never really tell you how to do it. Don't they know that puppies and kittens are spring-loaded?

He has recovered like a champ. Our vets are wondeful....
They made sure to provide lots of extra hydration during the procedure because he is so very thin. There is not a single ounce of fat on that dog, and it is not a good thing. The vet would like to see him at least 2 pounds up by his next annual check up (next July). That would put him at the lowest level for his size. We have special treats he gets that are high calorie (that his high energy burns right off I would think)
